More than £1 billion-worth of contracts on major projects are at the tender stage and due to be awarded imminently, according to Glenigan’s construction industry analysis.
The 10 biggest jobs due for award are spread across half a dozen building sectors and represent a swathe of opportunities for contractors.
Office bound
The largest amount of work coming up is in the office sector, which provides three of the 10 biggest jobs worth a combined total of £353 million.
The biggest of this trio is the £140 million Colloco Development in Manchester (Project ID: 20319725). The clients, Henry Boot and St John Manchester, are currently negotiating a contract according to Glenigan’s market analysis, and construction is due to get underway in February.
A £113 million office and commercial scheme at Mitcham in South London is currently out to tender (Project ID: 25457004). The scheme is the fourth largest in the overall pipeline, and work is anticipated to commence in May.
Major office and commercial schemes in the pipeline are not restricted to southern England. A £100 million office scheme in Livingston, in Scotland, is ranked seventh in the Top 10 of jobs at the tender stage (Project ID: 25451758). Bids are currently being drawn up, and work is due to start in July.
Education bids
The education sector provides the second and third largest schemes currently up at tender stage, worth a combined total of more than a quarter of a billion pounds.
The £138 million Whitegates Park scheme is also in Scotland and will provide a new school at Kirkintilloch near Glasgow (Project ID: 22078421).
The scheme is in phase three of the Scottish Learning Estate Investment Programme (Project ID: 23261649), and tenders are due for return at the end of April, with work scheduled to start before the end of this year.
Bidders are also working on tenders for a proposed £118 million Social Sciences block at the University of Warwick, where work should commence this summer (Project ID: 23063822).
Housing job
There are three residential schemes among the Top 10 jobs at tender stage worth a total of nearly £250 million.
Two of these jobs are in the social housing sector. The largest is a student accommodation job for the University of Bath (Project ID: 25495063). Tenders are due for return on February 2, and work should commence in April.
Clarion Housing’s £80 million Blenheim Centre Penge development of 228 flats in Bromley, south London, should commence in October (Project ID: 22329842).
Tenders have just been returned for a £67 million private development of 318 flats in Ealing, West London, and the successful contractor is likely to break ground in April (Project ID: 22192923).
Myriad opportunities
Accommodation is also at the heart of an £80 million hotel scheme at Waterloo in central London, which should also start in April, with bids due back on February 24 (Project ID: 16240091).
The industrial sector is providing major opportunities, and the £100 million Capitol Industrial Park in Colindale, North London, could get underway by February as bids are due back later this month. (Project ID: 17133454)
With many of these schemes due to be awarded imminently, this should help the industry get off to a good start in 2026.
