Construction News: Major firms diverge over sector focus

The UK’s top contractors have shown contrasting responses to the downturn in public sector construction work, an exclusive analysis by Construction News and Glenigan has revealed.

Amid warnings that public sector capital investment will drop by 24 per cent by 2013/14, three of the biggest firms increased their proportion of public sector work won.

But others have been moving sharply away from work in health, education, social housing and community/amenities, to position themselves in new and growing markets (see charts, bottom).
