Wates appoints Shepherd Construction manager to boost commercial client relationships

Wates Construction has appointed Shepherd Construction’s Christian Bailey to lead its business development team and strengthen its Northern presence in the private sector.

Mr Bailey will be responsible for building relationships with commercial clients in Wates’ private sector portfolio across the region.

He has made the move from Shepherd Construction where he led the business development function for the group’s western region.

KPMG to review Balfour Beatty contracts after fifth profit warning in two years

Interserve is to build a £43m facility for the aerospace industry in Yorkshire.

The contractor will deliver the futuristic research and assembly plant Factory 2050 at the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre.

The facility will include advanced robotics, flexible automation, unmanned workspace and off-line programming. It will also feature 3D printing from automated systems, man-machine interfaces and cutting-edge programming and training tools.

Kier Living MD John Anderson labels UK housebuilding levels an 'embarrassment'

The UK must loosen its attitude towards building on greenfield land if it is to address its “absurd” housing shortage, Kier Living’s executive managing director has told Construction News.

John Anderson said the development of greenfield land does not have to be negative if designed and built properly.

He said the lack of the housebuilding in the country had become an “embarrassment”, with housing inflation on the rise and waiting lists for affordable homes increasing.

Bam Properties and Taylor Clark plan £100m Glasgow scheme

Bam Properties and Taylor Clark Properties have announced plans to jointly develop a £100m commercial scheme in Glasgow city centre.

The development is set to cover 300,000 sq ft of space in Atlantic Square, part of Glasgow’s financial district, and will create one of the largest office developments in the city.

It will comprise two office buildings of 10 storeys and six storeys that will include ground-floor retail space, as well as a third building of residential accommodation and retail.
