Helen Fisher discusses plans for £7.6bn Nine Elms pipeline

Construction contracts on the Vauxhall Nine Elms Battersea regeneration will total £7.6bn, Construction News has learned.

Programme director Helen Fisher told Construction News there are 11 major schemes on site, comprising more than 3,000 homes and 500,000 sq ft of commercial space.

Individual developers retain autonomy when choosing their supply chains, although they are encouraged to work with certain architects on public realm works for consistency.

Laing O'Rourke buys Yorkshire glass reinforced concrete firm

Construction News can reveal that Laing O’Rourke has acquired a Yorkshire architectural glass reinforced concrete firm. Glass Reinforced Concrete UK, which specialises in bespoke architectural glass reinforced concrete products, will become a wholly owned subsidiary of the group and 38 full-time staff will transfer to the contractor.

Balfour Beatty wins £214m Dubai mall deal

A Balfour Beatty joint venture has won £214 million deal to expand the world’s largest shopping mall in Dubai.

Dutco Balfour Beatty will expand Dubai Mall six years after it finished building it. The expansion includes construction of a new ‘Fashion Avenue’ in between the existing Dubai Mall and the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa.

Balfour Beatty chief executive Andrew McNaughton said, “The Middle East is a growth region for the Group and we are very pleased to continue our partnership with Emaar Properties on the development of downtown Dubai which builds on the original construction of the Dubai Mall.
