Skanska UK half-year profits dip as revenues rise

Skanska UK has reported a fall in operating profit in the first six months of the year and an order book "slightly behind target", despite a revenue increase of £8m on the same period last year. Results for the first six months of 2013 show Skanska UK’s operating profit fell to £17.5m from £20.2m in the first six months of 2012. The firm reported revenue of £545m in the first half of 2013, up from up from £537m in the same period last year.

National Grid in £32m Redrow land sale

National Grid has sold around 95 acres of land near Ebbsfleet Green in North Kent to Redrow Homes. The site, about 700 metres from Ebbsfleet International Station, has been sold with a purchase price of “at least £32m”. Redrow has acquired the land with a resolution to grant planning permission for up to 1,500 homes and 22,000 sq m of commercial space.

Willmott Dixon wins £15m “mini Eton” free school

Willmott Dixon has won a £15m contract to build a free school that will be the first to allow pupils to board. Holyport College in Berkshire will boast Eton as its educational sponsor and 225 of the 500 pupils will be boarders. The job has been procured through the Scape framework and Willmott Dixon will start construction this month with the school set to open in September 2014. Work will see the company demolish some of the existing buildings and replace them with new teaching and living accommodation.

Bam Nuttall £1m Tube claim suffers legal setback

An attempt by Bam Nuttall to enforce an adjudication for over £1m in fees on a London Underground upgrade project has been thrown out of court.

Bam Nuttall was working for Swiss-headquartered power and automation contractor ABB, who were main contractor to carry out major power upgrade work to parts of the Tube network, installing a three-storey bulk supply point adjacent to Edgware Road station.

The sub-contract for removal and decommissioning of redundant cables and design and installation of new distribution cables was awarded to Bam Nuttall in November 2009.
