Carillion wins Royal Victoria Docks resi towers

Carillion has won a deal to build two tower blocks comprising 360 new homes at London’s Royal Victoria Docks. The Hub Residential Hoola project will deliver two towers, rising to 23 and 24 storeys respectively. The buildings have been designed by CZWG Architects. All homes will be for private sale.
 
 
‘War for talent’: CITB braced to battle rival sectors

James Wates seems pretty relaxed considering he’s the leader of a major industry organisation with an uncertain future. The CITB, which he chairs, faces an interesting year. On the one hand it is preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2014; on the other it is in the midst of a triennial review by the government that will decide whether there is still a need for the organisation at all.

New college to train HS2 engineers
 
A new college will be set up to train engineers in the technical skills needed for high speed rail, the government has announced. The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills said the new facility would ensure HS2 can be built by skilled British workers and would also benefit future infrastructure projects across the UK.

Euromix set for takeover as big firms circle
 
Exclusive: Lafarge and Hope Construction Materials are among the firms in talks to buy out Euromix Concrete, after it fell into administration last month. 
PwC administrator Zelf Hussain, who was appointed to Euromix Concrete on 20 December 2013, told Construction News that a deal to buy Euromix Concrete could be in place by the start of next week.
