Balfour Beatty board rejects fresh merger offer from Carillion

Balfour Beatty’s board has rejected a new offer from Carillion, including that it compensate bidders for Parsons Brinckerhoff should the merger go ahead.

In an update to the City, made without the support of Carillion, Balfour Beatty set out the revised terms of the offer from Carillion chairman Philip Green.

Construction leaders fear business closures over skills crisis

A Prince’s Trust and HSBC report shared with Construction News shows more than a third of construction business leaders fear their firms could fold due to the skills crisis.

The survey found that more than three-quarters of business leaders in construction believe a significant skills crisis will hit their firms within the next three years and 45 per cent of those surveyed predict this will happen within the next year.

Babcock announces management changes

Babcock has announced changes to its senior management, with group finance director Bill Tame set to take control of its international division.

Bill Tame, who had been group finance director since January 2002, is the new chief executive of the Babcock’s enlarged International division.

Laing O’Rourke has won a £100m deal to build a research hub for Voreda and Imperial College London.

The Imperial West Research and Translation Hub will be built in White City, London.

Laing O’Rourke said it would use its Design for Manufacture & Assembly approach to build the hub.
