Exclusive: Four contractors battle to win £600m Battersea Power Station phase two contract

Exclusive: Four contractors are understood to be battling to win the £600m phase two of the Battersea Power Station development.

The contractors believed to be in the running are, Balfour Beatty, Lend Lease, Skanska and Mace.

It is believed the contract, expected to be worth around £600m, will be awarded in early July.

Mace was previously appointed as construction manager for the £100m preliminary works, which began in October 2013. It is understood that if Mace do not secure the contract they will stop on site, with work assumed by the winning bidder.

ISG to build and upgrade three data centres under £140m contract wins

ISG has been appointed to build and upgrade three data centres, including its third new-build Nordic project worth around £120m.

The company did not identify its global technology customer. ISG’s first project was handed over in February 2014 and the second will be completed over the summer.

The firm has also secured a £20m upgrade of two existing data centres for a global banking and financial services organisation in the UK.

Midlands Highway Alliance names five contractors for £261m Medium Schemes Framework

The Midlands Highway Alliance has unveiled the winners of its next Medium Schemes Framework worth up to £261m.

Five firms have been appointed to the four-year framework, which will enable the 21 MHA members to appoint contractors for large-scale construction schemes up to £25m.

Contractors on the schemes up to £5m are Aggregate Industries, Balfour Beatty, Eurovia, Galliford Try, and LaFarge Tarmac/Carillion.

Balfour Beatty director hails delivery as Heathrow Terminal 2 opens

Balfour Beatty’s director of aviation John Keaveney speaks to Construction News about his team’s work on Heathrow’s Terminal 2 complex, which opened today.

The contractor was responsible for delivering the £590m Terminal 2B facility as part of the T2 complex.

Mr Keaveney highlights the “significant challenges” the team faced, including “huge volumes” of space below ground as well as associated civil works.
