Tenders due to be invited for flood scheme

Scottish Borders Council has agreed to take forward plans for a £31.4 million flood protection scheme for Selkirk. The authority said it meant the project was fully approved, designed and ready to commence the delivery stages. Prequalification questionnaires are to be issued late March 2014 for the Selkirk Flood Protection Scheme. Tenders are expected to be invited May 2014, with main construction work commencing November 2014. The flood prevention scheme would remove 595 properties in the Bannerfield, Philiphaugh and Riverside areas from the national flood risk register. It would do so by protecting against the effects of flooding from the Ettrick and Yarrow waters and the Long Philip and Shaw burns.
