Plans to build an Eco Park at Charlton Lane, Shepperton were considered again by the Surrey County Council Planning and Regulatory Committee on 9 March 2012. The committee agreed to permit the development, subject to conditions. Waste contractor SITA Surrey plans to start building at the end of the 2012 or in early 2013.
The construction will involve a gasification plant to treat 60,000 tonnes of residual household waste; an anaerobic digestion facility to process 40,000 tonnes of food waste; bulking and baling facilities; community recycling centre and reuse centre; visitor and education centre to allow Surrey residents to learn more about reducing, reusing and recycling waste.
