Lew Castle is a Category-A listed building dating from the mid nineteenth century. The building is owned by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and has been vacant since the mid 1990's. The project involves repair, refurbishment and conversion of the Castle for hospitality use, the construction of a new museum and archive and some external landscaping works.

The scope of the works include: 

  1. Construction of a single storey extension of 1,150 sqm to provide new museum and archive facilitites with air-conditioning system. 
  2. Limited demolitions including outbuildings and some service wings. 
  3. Internal repairs, restoration and conversion of the ground floor of the Castle for hospitality use. 
  4. Formation of a new car park. 
  5. Landscaping works in the immediate vicinity of the Castle, including repair of an existing fountain. 

The value of these works is estimated at £11.94 million excluding VAT. This contract is due to commence 3rd January, 2013 for an 18 months contract period.
