Emma’s mountainous challenge for GOSH

A Glenigan researcher is strapping on her hiking boots to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Emma Dukes, education sector expert at Glenigan, will be tackling the 19,000ft trek to the top of Africa’s highest peak in October as part of the Kili4Gosh team.

The team of 15 people from across Top Right Group, Glenigan’s parent company, hope to raise more than £50,000 towards a group-wide campaign launched earlier this year. GleniganNewsletter_GOSHKiliClimb_Sep-14

Top Right Group has pledged to raise more than £85,000 to fund a ‘changing faces practitioner’ within the dermatology department at Great Ormond Street who can support children with debilitating skin conditions and facial disfigurements.

Emma and the Kili4Gosh team will jet out to Tanzania on 4 October ready to begin their ascent. The climb is expected to take up to a week, with the team planning on reaching the peak by 10 October.

“I can’t think of a challenge more difficult than climbing Kilimanjaro,” Emma said.

“The training has been intense; starting with five laps around the sofa every night, I have now graduated to 20-plus mile off-road bike rides. Muscle soreness and huge blisters are all part and parcel of daily life at the moment – but it’s all worth it.”

She added: “The staff at Great Ormond Street are amazing – they work tirelessly day and night to make sure every child gets the chance in life that they deserve.

“This is one of the many reasons why the team and I are looking to raise at least £50,000 by putting ourselves through hell for a week.”
