Glenigan and Constructing Excellence win contract to deliver UK Construction Industry Key Performance Indicators

Glenigan in partnership with Constructing Excellence have been awarded a 3 year contract to deliver UK Construction Industry Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The KPIs are national data sets against which a project or a company can benchmark its performance. The KPIs are an initiative from the Department of Business Innovation & Skills (BIS) and the initial survey process is currently carried out by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The data is collected each year from national surveys covering the construction industry and its clients. The KPIs are published by Constructing Excellence on the KPIzone website (www.kpizone.com) which is updated each June with data collected from the previous year.

In mid 2009 BIS & ONS tendered the work through the OJEU to:

  • Compile and maintain the list of active clients and contractors;
  • Carry out the survey and record and summarise the results;
  • Analyse and interpret the results – reporting back to BIS;
  • Deliver the resultant KPI data in agreed format to KPI Zone; and
  • Actively encourage adoption and awareness of the KPIs throughout the UK construction industry

Glenigan, in partnership with Constructing Excellence (CE) won this tender in October 2009 and are actively working with ONS to take over the survey during the first half of 2010.

Keith Folwell, Senior Statistician at BIS, said "BIS has supported KPIs since their inception as a tool for improving performance in the construction industry. We firmly believe that the future for KPIs lies in increasing coverage and take-up within the construction industry. Glenigan’s comprehensive database of construction projects and communication links should contribute a great deal towards these ends."

According to Graham Sharp, Head of Construction Statistics at ONS, "Glenigan hold a comprehensive register of active clients and contractors in the construction industry that is maintained using robust research processes. Through continual tracking of the progress of construction projects Glenigan hold timely data that will improve the KPI survey process. Awarding the contract to Glenigan will ultimately increase the value of the KPIs to the industry."

Jon De Souza, Director of Constructing Excellence, commented “Constructing Excellence is proud to be working in partnership with Glenigan to help improve the performance of the construction industry. Glenigan combine research and analytical expertise with innovative ideas and a genuine desire for continuous improvement which make them a pleasure to work with.”

Mike Woolfrey, Managing Director, Glenigan said "Glenigan is extremely proud to have been awarded this contract. Glenigan is committed to delivering measurable returns and genuine value to all our customers and are confident that the timeliness and comprehensiveness of the Glenigan data, combined with our analytical expertise will benefit those using the KPIs."
